Carrie Underwood to unleash 'Play On' arena run next spring

On the heels of releasing her latest chart-topping album, "Play On," Carrie Underwood has unveiled plans for a sweeping US tour next year.

The first leg of the new outing consists of 45 dates, beginning March 11 in Reading, PA, and running through May 30 in Spokane, WA. The country trek, which will feature special guests Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia, will stop by a pair of Canadian cities as well: Hamilton (3/23) and Kanata, Ontario (3/24). The full list of shows is below.

"I am getting excited about next year as we are currently working through all the big plans for the tour," Underwood stated in a press release. "I cannot wait to perform new music and see familiar faces across the US and Canada."

The country songstress dropped "Play On," her third studio set, early last month. The record followed in the footsteps of her sophomore album, "Carnival Ride," debuting at No. 1 on The Billboard 200.

First-week sales of "Play On" also marked the biggest one-week sales total for a female recording artist in 2009 and second best sales week for the country genre as a whole in 2009, according to Nielsen SoundScan retail data as reported by Billboard.

To date, the multiple award-winner has sold in excess of 11 million copies and attracted more than a million fans to her 137-show "Carnival Ride" tour last year.

Last week, Underwood was nominated for two Grammys: Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Just a Dream" and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for "I Told You So" with Randy Travis. The country star has already received four Grammy trophies, including the Best Female Country Vocal Performance category for three straight years.
